Question 1
Where are you right now about the decision to divorce?
The relationship is actively coming apart. One of us has decided to leave, and we are beginning to separate.
The decision has been made, but it still does not feel real. I feel the pain, the shock, and the loss all at once.
The shock has started to lift and I mostly feel angry — at him, at the situation, at myself for not seeing it sooner.
I keep going back over everything, wondering what I could have done differently — and whether I made the right decision.
The early intensity has passed. I feel flat or disconnected, yet I am also starting to find some footing and sense of peace.
Question 2
How would you describe your ability to think clearly and make decisions right now?
Very hard. I feel like I have blown a circuit — difficulty focusing, remembering, and making even small decisions.
My mind feels foggy and disoriented. I go through the motions but feel detached from my own life.
I can function, but I am easily triggered. My emotions are close to the surface and interfere with my focus.
My mind keeps replaying the marriage. It is hard to focus on much else for long.
My thinking is much clearer. I am able to make decisions and look ahead with more steadiness and confidence.
Question 3
What feeling comes up most strongly when you think about your divorce?
Overwhelm and shock — everything is happening at once and I can barely keep up.
Disbelief, sadness, and pain — along with a sense of rejection or feeling like a failure.
Anger — I need people to hear what happened and understand how I was treated.
Regret and longing — I keep wondering what I could have done differently to change the outcome.
A quieter sadness — grief, but with more acceptance and peace underneath it than before.
Question 4
How are you relating to the people in your life right now?
I am in survival mode — either overwhelmed by people around me or barely connecting at all.
I have pulled away, or I keep so busy there is no room to feel what is actually happening.
I need people to understand what I went through. I tell my story often and seek their validation.
I reach out, but mostly to replay the marriage or get reassurance about my decision.
I am letting people in more. Connection feels possible and my relationships feel more grounded.
Question 5
How do you feel about yourself — your worth, your identity, your sense of who you are?
I feel completely destabilized. Everything I knew about my life and my future has been shaken.
I feel a deep sense of rejection and, at times, like a failure — even if I know that is not the whole story.
I am hard on myself for not seeing the signs sooner, and angry at myself as much as anyone else.
I question my judgment. I wonder if I over-accommodated trying to save something that could not be saved.
I am reconnecting with who I am and beginning to have a clearer sense of what I want going forward.
Question 6
How much do you find yourself replaying the marriage — the moments, the decisions, the "what ifs"?
Constantly — on top of everything else right now, it is completely overwhelming.
My mind replays it wrapped in shock and disbelief, trying to make sense of something that still does not feel real.
I replay it with a lot of anger — going over how I was treated and what I should have done differently.
All the time. I keep searching for the moment that would have changed everything.
Rarely. When it comes up, I can let it pass without being pulled back into it.
Question 7
How are you sleeping and managing the basics of daily life?
Sleep is very difficult. The basics feel almost impossible to manage right now.
I am getting through the days, but it feels surreal. I sometimes isolate or keep moving so I do not have to feel it.
I am managing, but exhausted and irritable. My emotions are close to the surface.
Some days are okay. Others, I am consumed by worry and cannot relax.
More steady than I was. I am rebuilding structure and routine in a way that feels like mine.
Question 8
When you think about the future, what comes up most?
I cannot think about the future. I am just trying to get through each day right now.
The future feels unimaginable. My whole sense of what my life would be has collapsed.
Fear and resentment. I am angry about what was taken from me and what I now have to face alone.
Uncertainty and "what ifs." I keep questioning every decision that led to where I am.
Cautious hope and genuine possibility. I am beginning to define what the next chapter looks like.
Question 9
When difficult emotions surface, what do you tend to do?
I am completely overwhelmed. There is no space to process — everything is happening at once.
I avoid them — staying busy or keeping distracted so I do not have to feel them.
I express them, sometimes more intensely than I intend to. The anger needs somewhere to go.
I try to think my way through them — more analyzing than feeling. Or I push them aside and keep moving.
I can acknowledge them, feel them, and let them pass without being controlled by them.
Question 10
What feels most true about where you are in your divorce recovery right now?
I am in crisis. Everything is unraveling and I am barely holding on.
The decision has been made, but it still does not feel real. I feel the pain, the rejection, and the loss all at once.
The reality has hit — and I am angry. I need to be heard and make sense of what happened to me.
I cannot stop going back over everything. My mind keeps searching for answers and replaying what happened.
I feel at peace with what happened. I have accepted it and I am stepping into the next chapter of my life.
